Our Mission

Since the entire baptized share a common relationship with God, all are called to be “religious” or holy in the broad sense of the word. Some men and women, however, choose to live a particular lifestyle called religious or consecrated life. They follow a specific tradition or spirituality patterned after the life and teaching of the founder of their community. A community can include sisters or brothers, or priests, who share a common vision and mission. They profess evangelical vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience. Every day, they make time for prayer, pastoral, and community. We have also committed to make disciples who love God, love other, and serve the world. We believe that small things done with great love will change the world. Our fundamental values are Faith in Jesus Christ, Devotion to the Holy Mother of God, Passion for the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Respect for all people; Kindness, Honesty, Spiritual growth, and the Tridentine Mass as a privilege and power of meeting God with other believers to perpetuate the true Catholic Faith.

A testimony of mission

The Instigator of Notre Dame de La Salette in Haiti

Reverend Father Amogène Charles

The Church of Our Lady of La Salette (L’Église Notre-Dame de la Salette) is a project deeply close to the heart of the Third Order Regular (T.O.R.) Franciscan Community of St. Francis of Assisi. This endeavor was initiated by our founder, Reverend Father Amogène Charles, driven by the desire to provide the community with a worthy place of prayer where the faithful could gather to celebrate their faith and grow in their Christian life. Despite numerous difficulties, Father Amogène Charles began the work with great trust in Providence and thanks to the support of generous individuals. Unfortunately, he passed away before seeing his project completed. Following his passing, the responsibility to continue this work was entrusted to Reverend Father Philippe Charles, Provincial Superior of the Community. Faithful to the founder's vision, he is committed to continuing the construction in order to fulfill Father Amogène Charles's dream. Today, we carry on this mission with hope. By supporting the construction of the Church of Our Lady of La Salette, you are helping to keep our founder's legacy alive and to offer future generations a true house of God. Every prayer, every act of solidarity, and every donation brings us closer to the completion of this beautiful work. Thank you for accompanying us in this mission.

A community serving the mission

Community of the Sisters of Saint Francis of Assisi

Serving faith, prayer, and the community

Our Mission as Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi is to further the coming of the reign of God: to live the Gospel; to be faithful to the rule of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis and the Constitutions of the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi; to carry forward the dependence upon the Father, prayerfulness, simplicity and hospitality which marked the foundation of the Congregation in Haiti; and to be available in service to the Church, at home and abroad, in those areas of concern and need that call forth the corporate and personal gifts of our members. In short, we further the reign of God by living the Gospel, following the rule of St. Francis, and serving the Church and people in need through prayer, simplicity, and hospitality. We live a Gospel life by living out the teachings of Jesus Christ through the specific lens and rule of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis. We are active in service by being available to serve the Church, society, and marginalized or needy communities both locally and abroad. We keep our foundational virtues by maintaining a deep dependence on God, prayerfulness, simplicity, and hospitality rooted in their Haitian foundation.
